I've read one Stephen J Gould book ("Wonderful Life") and thought it was very interesting, but the Cambrian explosion seems to support a creation event more readily than a sudden evolutionary event.
I read a review of Greatest Show on Earth which compared it to Jerry Coyne's book Why Evolution is True, and preferred the latter. Might have a look at either I guess.
