Not really, evolutionary theory only explains the process by which they have arrived at their present form. (Our opinion of) how well suited they are to their environment is not the most pertinent factor. I interpret your statement to suggest a purpose behind the process rather than merely cause – effect, but I may be wrong. I share your admiration.
